Biometrical Turntables

These modified turntables produce audio from photographs of the human iris. The system is equipped with light sensors attached to the pickups that convert variations in brightness caused by the spinning image into analogue audio signals.

The intricate design of the iris offers a diverse array of strings and shapes. The changes in brightness as the image rotates under the sensor are immediately transformed into analogue waveforms and amplified using custom electronics.

The performer can manipulate the audio output by adjusting the pickups’ positioning on the iris photograph, varying the rotation speed, and adjusting various amplification parameters.
